Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) protests against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill. In this regard  candlelight protest was carried out by the doctors at press enclave, Srinagar, Kashmir on Sunday evening. Dr Suhail Naik, President DAK said that “the bill, which seeks to replace and subsume the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body, was tabled in the Rajya Sabha in January by Union Health Minister JP Nadda”.

“According to the bill, practitioners of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, can practice modern medicine once they complete a short-term 'bridge' course. It is dead impossible that a short bridge course can make them competent to practice modern medicine, as it takes seven years of stringent training to become an allopathic doctor” said Dr Naik. “It is very unfortunate that in order to address human resources crunch in allopathy, Government of India is trying to befool the people of whole nation”,  Dr Naik added.

“Furthermore national licentiate exam (NLE) after completing medical graduation   are serious enough to distort the future of medical education in this country," Dr Naik further added. DAK said that it will resist and protest against the NMC Bill tooth and nail and will not allow Govt. to jeopardize the health sector. DAK will support all the protests of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) in this regard. (KNO)
